Dr. Diego Linares has been selected as the new principal of Sam Houston Math, Science, and Technology Center High School.
Linares began his career as a bilingual teacher in Alief ISD, where he also served as a high school assistant principal. He served as an elementary school principal in the Stafford Municipal School District, where he was named Principal of the Year. He then served as principal of Scarborough High School, where he led the school out of Improvement Required (IR) status by meeting TEA standards and receiving four distinctions, including mathematics and science. Most recently, he worked at Katy ISD as the principal of Raines High School, the Opportunity Awareness center, and the Behavior Transition Program.
Linares earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Santo Tomas in Bogota, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from University of Houston at Clear Lake, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from University of Houston.

What is Hazel Health?
Hazel Health provides physical and mental health telehealth services to students at school and at home. Hazel Health is an additional tool for nurses, counselors, and social workers to use when providing student services.
What is telehealth?
Telehealth is the use of technology to provide health care virtually. All Hazel Health visits are "virtual visits", through a tablet, desktop, or other smart device.
Why is Houston ISD partnering with Hazel Health?
Houston ISD is partnering with Hazel Health in response to the increasing demand the district is seeing for both physical health and mental health services, especially after the pandemic.

Students entering grade nine in school year 2017-2018 and thereafter, may, after earning an overall course grade of 85 or higher in a qualifying elective course, request that the numeric grade be converted to a “pass”. This applies to students earning credit in HISD. Pass/fail grades do not affect grade point averages.
