In 2008, Ms. Mandy Gutierrez began her educational career as a secondary teacher in North Houston at the Night Grade College Preparatory Academy (Sam Houston High School). In 2010, Ms. Gutierrez transitioned to Eastwood Academy High School where she continued teaching English III and served as a Teacher Specialist. While at Eastwood Academy, Ms. Gutierrez was able to focus on developing a well-rounded student and provide students with external learning opportunities through Fantastic Learning Opportunities. Through this partnership, students were able to explore educational programs outside their traditional classroom that were directly aligned to their interest, career choice, college, or leadership focus. During that year, Ms. Gutierrez completed her Rice Educational Entrepreneurial Program Fellowship and received her principalship. She accepted her first leadership position at River Oaks Elementary School, as an Assistant Principal, where she gained invaluable IB experience.
In 2012, Ms. Gutierrez transitioned to Herrera Elementary School, as an Assistant Principal, and played a vital role in the implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP). This year marks her twelfth year at Herrera Elementary. Her educational philosophy is based on her uncompromising belief that ALL students can, and will, learn in a positive learning environment. Her commitment is grounded in always putting students FIRST and developing healthy relationships with all stakeholders. Her educational experiences have afforded her the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to make certain that all students that attend Herrera Elementary will receive a superb education!
