    HISD offers students a wide variety of unique schools and specialized programming (or themes) families can select from based on their student’s unique interests and skills. Each unique program or theme is listed below.     What is a magnet school/program?

     

    Many of the schools offer magnet programming focused on providing innovative experiences and real-life preparation for all students. If a student is offered a magnet school seat, they will be eligible for free transportation. HISD has 119 schools that offer magnet programming to ensure families have many different options available to them. Magnet programs will be identified in each of the sections below.

    Students have several ways to earn college credit while enrolled in high school. 

  • Single-Gender College Preparatory Program

  • Academic Early College High Schools

  • Pathways in Technology (P-TECH) Early College High School

  • International Baccalaureate (IB)

  • Dual Credit (College Credit with Houston Community College)

  • Dual Enrollment (College Credit with University of Texas)

  • Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

  • Language and Culture Programs

     

    Students have multiple opportunities to learn world languages across the District.
