    Nimmi Thomas, principal


    Nimmi Thomas started her career twenty years ago as a paraprofessional at an elementary campus in HISD.  She completed her ACP program with HISD and became a certified Special Education and ESL teacher at Lamar High School.  In 2006, Thomas was recognized as the Special Education Teacher of the year for the Central Region.  She was also recognized multiple times as the HAABE, ESL Teacher of the Year for Lamar High School. In 2014, Thomas joined the Secondary Curriculum Department as an Instructional Coach.  In this position, she was part of the Literacy Team and she was instrumental in the creation and implementation of the Literacy in the Middle Initiative. She also supported multiple middle school campuses and helped write the Strategic Reading and Writing Curriculum.  In 2017, she became the Assistant Principal at Lanier Middle School.  She was able to close gaps and increase achievement in both reading and writing.  In 2018, Thomas joined Baylor College of Medicine Biotech Academy at Rusk. As an assistant principal there she helped the campus earn four distinctions and increased the overall rating by five points.  She also supported four turn around campuses in the east region in the year 2019-2020.  Her most recent accomplishment has been being selected as the Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year for the East Area.   She earned her Master’s in Social Work from Bombay University, India and her MBA-E from The Cameron School of Business, University of St Thomas.
