Counseling Services at Oak Forest Elementary School
Hello! My name is Krysten Kuo and I am grateful to be the school counselor for the students at Oak Forest Elementary School. I received my Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from the University of Texas at Austin and then my Master of Education in School Counselor Education from the University of St. Thomas. After working in public relations and community relations for years, it wasn't long before I felt called to work with children full-time. I was an elementary school teacher for five years before starting my school counseling career in 2018. I feel extremely blessed to be living out my calling and to be here with our wonderful OFE family. I am passionate about social emotional learning and collaborating to help our students become capable, kind, and confident leaders in the real world.
As defined by ASCA (American School Counselor Association), school counselors are certified/ licensed educators who improve student success for ALL students by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. School counselors work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. As vital members of the school leadership team, school counselors create a school culture of success for all.
At Oak Forest Elementary, we believe in the importance of growing the whole child. We aim to help students thrive socially, emotionally, mentally, academically, and physically. We know that meaningful learning in the classroom is achieved when students feel safe, seen, respected, and cared for.
Counseling services available to students include classroom guidance lessons throughout the year (on topics such as managing emotions, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills), individual counseling, small group counseling, crisis response, consultation, referrals, and collaboration with teachers, parents, leadership, and community members. I am here to aid our staff and families in best supporting our students. Please feel free to contact me at krysten.kuo@houstonisd.org or just reach out to say hello! 🙂
