The 1st six week period we will be working on literary analysis.  The unit will consist of two 3 week parts:  Part 1- Poetry in the past and present and Part 2- Fiction in the past and present.  We will focus on poetry and short stories.  We will examine the genres of poetry and short fiction, analyzing figurative language, sound devices, graphical elements, author's purpose and theme.  Students will look at the way literature has changed through the yeas and examine bother classical and modern texts.  Students will be drafting their own poems and short stories utilizing the various literary elements and techniques discussed
