Principal's Message
-
To all of our students and families,
I am excited and honored that you have chosen Poe as your school. We have so many things to offer for everyone. Our teachers are the best and they have spent the summer traveling, having new experiences, and learning new things to make their classrooms very exciting places. Poe is now an International Baccalaureate campus, so our standards are high. In a nutshell, it means we are teaching with a more global perspective, creating units that integrate subjects like reading and math and art, and presenting information in ways that make more sense to kids. It’s a different philosophy that honors the whole child and works with each child to help them figure out their place in the world and how best to contribute to that world. Of course, our emphasis is, at the same time, on the arts. Our fine arts department is ready to create the great performances you have become accustomed to seeing throughout the year.
Important things to know:
- The tardy bell rings at 7:30am and school ends at 2:50pm. Parents, please be sure to make the proper arrangements to pick up your child(ren) or with after school care.
- In the mornings, all children who arrive at school before 7:25am need to wait in the cafeteria. There should be no children, or parents, beyond the cafeteria before the 7:25am bell rings to release students to go to their classrooms. Our teachers need this time to get ready for the day.
- After school, all students who are not a part of the extended day program or who do not ride a bus, will be brought to the front of the school and will remain in a supervised area until their ride arrives. Please do not ask children to come to the corner or to leave the supervised area. This is to keep your children safe.
- During the day, all doors to the school are locked except the front doors. All visitors must enter through the front doors and must sign in at the counter in the front office. There are no exceptions to this rule.
We have 5 early dismissal dates this year. Early dismissal will be at 11:30am on these dates:
September 21, October 19, November 9, January 18, February 15.
I invite you all to get involved, be a part of the Poe community, and together, let’s make this the most fantastic year yet. Follow me on Twitter @AmersonJeff and on Facebook at facebook.com/poe.raven.79 for up to date info on what is happening at Poe. I look forward to seeing you all this year and to welcoming our new families into the Poe family.
Sincerely,
Jeff Amerson
