Valley West hosts three major literacy events each year. Reading is a key part of being a Manatee! We hope your student will enjoy these opportunities to explore great authors, books, and ideas.
1. Fall Book Fair and Literacy Week
This fall, head on out to the Wild West Book Fair – Saddle Up and Read! We are rounding up the staff, students, and families to make their way to the reading frontier, where readers are wanted and adventure awaits in books galore from Scholastic and other popular publishers! A portion of the proceeds from the fair helps Valley West purchase resources for the library.
2. Spring Book Fair
The spring book fair is your second chance to take home some new and exciting as well as classic titles. Our library will transform for the second time into a magical place. Each class will have the opportunity to visit the fair and purchase books and other items. Again, book sales support our efforts to buy supplies for our school library.
3. Books Between Kids Book Celebration
Books Between Kids collects gently used books from the community throughout the school year. The donated books are sorted, inventoried and boxed by volunteers in our warehouse. Each May, the books are delivered to Valley West and other HISD school. Valley West then holds a Book Celebration for each child in the school to choose 6 books apiece. These free books are for the children to take home and keep for their own.
