MathThe STAAR math incorporates underlying processes and mathematical tools covered in that particular grade. These include numerical representations and relationships, computations and algebraic relationships, geometry and measurement, and data analysis and personal financial literacy.
ScienceSTAAR focuses on concepts and addresses them in depth. Tested content includes matter and energy, force, motion, earth and space, and organisms and the environment. Forty percent of the STAAR tests incorporate scientific investigation, and reasoning.
ReadingThe STAAR assessment requires both analytical skills and an application of knowledge. Tested content includes understanding across genres, understanding and analysis of literary texts, and informational texts.
WritingThe STAAR grade 4 writing assessment requires students to write an expository essay. The students are also given multiple choice questions that focus on revising and editing. Revising a document will require students to have a more in-depth knowledge of sentence structure, patterns, and usage.
