STAAR
STAAR is the state’s testing program and is based on state curriculum standards in core subjects including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
STAAR tests are designed to measure what students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade. The goal is to ensure that all students receive what they need to be academically successful. Meeting these individual student needs depends greatly on schools, parents, and community members working together.
STAAR ALT 2
TEA has developed the STAAR Alternate 2 assessment to meet the federal requirements mandated under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), a federal education law previously known as No Child Left Behind.
STAAR Alternate 2 tests are designed to measure student learning according to academic curriculum and to inform the educational program for each individual student. The goal is to ensure that all students get what they need to be academically successful. Meeting these individual student needs depends greatly on schools, parents, and community members working together.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) releases previously administered tests for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), STAAR Alternate 2, and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). Some released tests are available in the online testing environment as practice tests, some released tests are available in a printable PDF format, and some are available in both.
