• AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

    Each Instrument has its own requirements for auditions. Please click on the instrument link to the left to see the audition requirements before applying to to the music department.
    Here required forms are due before or at the time of audition:
     
    • Music Department application
    • Audition  Form
    • Copy of Most Recent Report Card/Progress Report
    • Letter of Recommendatio from most recent music director
    • Student letter explaining why you would like to study music at MC Williams Middle School

  • Why we audition students

    The purpose of auditions is not exclude students from music education, but to place students in the appropriate class at the appropriate level. Students come to Williams from a variety of schools with a wide range of talent. 

    Students are placed into a performance group that can demonstrate their ability to read and count music, make a characteristc sound on their instrument and have a comparable range to the group.
     
    Our performance ensembles are:
    • Wind Ensemble (Winds and percussion)
    • String Orchestra (Strings only)
    • Symphony Orchestra  (winds, percussion and strings)
    • Solo Performance-Piano and Harp
     Our Beginning groups are
    • Beginning Brass
    • Beginning Woodwinds
    • Beginning Percussion
    • Beginning Low Strings (Cello and String Bass)
    • Beginning High Strings (Violin and Viola)
    All students are encouraged to attend the Williams Summer Music Academy to start learning as a beginner or to advance their skills for the following year and prepare for high school auditions, All-City/Region auditions, scholarship prep, and/or solo and ensemble comnpetition.
