Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Veloyce Dorn

My name is Veloyce Dorn, and I am the chairperson of the Special Education department at Love Elementary School.

I went to school at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, where I majored in Elementary Education and Literature. I grew up in Akron, Ohio. I have been a teacher since 1986, with 16 years of that in private school at the K-2 general ed level. I have previously taught in Arlington, Texas and St. Louis, Missouri before moving to the Houston area.

My family moved to Houston in 2005 at which time I began working in HISD as a teacher assistant in Special Education.  I got certification for special Ed the following year and began in the resource teacher role.

In 2009 I transferred to Love ES and within three years took on Department chair position in addition to resource/inclusion teaching.  I am abundantly organized so the paperwork is a good fit for me. That helps me to support the SLL and PALS teachers as we do reams of documents each year for state folders.

I have been married for 28 years, I have 2 daughters, one a college graduate and one a high school senior.  We lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for 14 years and had both children there.  We love to travel when vacation comes.  We have visited 45 of the 50 states through car trips and camping.  I love it when my travel photos can be used to help teach the kids in school.

Love has been a good community for me and I enjoy the fact that my teaching role has me interacting with so many of these great teachers while I serve children.
