Overview and History Pat Neff Elementary School is located in the Sharpstown area of Southwest Houston. It is situated in the neighborhood bounded by the streets of Beechnut, Gessner, Bellaire, Fondren, and the Southwest Freeway. Approximately 780 students in grades 2- 5 attend Neff Elementary School. This population is ethnically divided into 80% Hispanic, 10% African-American, 6% Asian/Pacific Islanders, and 4% White. Approximately 93% of our students qualify for the free or reduced breakfast/lunch program. Due to the high percentage of students qualifying for the free or reduced breakfast and lunch programs, Neff continues to qualify as a school wide Title I school. Our instructional programs include Special Education (Lifeskills, TREAK, Resource, & Speech), Bilingual, ESL, Gifted & Talented classes, and after-school tutorials and clubs. At Neff, we are committed to inspiring a lifelong love of learning in every youngster. At our Honor Walks, we celebrate and honor those students who display our 4 core values of Nobility, Endurance, With Respect, and Self-Discipline. We also offer after-school clubs that stimulate creativity, self reliance, and self-esteem.
At Neff, after-school tutorials are offered for students who are at risk of failing or who need special help. These classes are taught by classroom teachers.
Neff has established a Shared Decision Making Committee (SDMC). This committee is comprised of the principal, teachers, parents, and community members. Based on test scores, attendance records, and parent surveys by the district, the committee has established these priority goals: 1) improve reading, writing, and math skills at all grade levels; 2) improve daily attendance by students and teachers; 3) increase parental and community involvement. The responsibility of educating children is a combination of the efforts of parents, community, and the school. This involves communication between home, community, and school to achieve the best for our children. Together Everyone Achieves More!
Prior to 2012, Neff Elementary School served as PK-5 campus located on Carvel Lane. In 2012, that campus was divided to Neff Early Center, a PK-1 campus still located on Carvel Lane and Neff Elementary, 2-5 campus, located at 8301 Neff Street. Although both campuses serve as independent institutions, both campuses work collaboratively to support the community. Neff Elementary School is now in its inaugural year and well equipped with a dedicated faculty and staff to develop life longer learners in grades 2-5.
