In the Summer of 2008, WBC was looking for a way to expand our outreach to the community. Church members chose to adopt a local elementary school. Pastor, Jeff Berger, met with Tiffany Chenier, principal of Ila McNamara Elementary and found that the school had many needs that they could help meet. Just before the start of school that August, we held a work day on the McNamara campus, with over 70 WBC members working to beautify the school grounds. This was the start of ongoing service to students, parents, faculty and staff members at McNamara.
WBC members serve at McNamara on a weekly basis as tutors, mentors, volunteer teacher aides, and volunteer office assistants. They also serve as chaperones on fieldtrips and during campus based activities including Field Day, Fall and Spring Carnivals, pictures with Santa Claus, Real Men Read and other events. Westbury’s Faith In Action ministry is also called on regularly for beautification projects on campus. Various other ministries bring baked teats and host appreciation lunches for the faculty and staff and provide school supplies, uniforms and Christmas gifts for students.
Westbury Baptist was awarded the 2012 VIPS Community Partner of the Year Award for our partnership, and they are most deserving of this honor.
