• Parent Involvement at Burnet Elementary

At Burnet we offer a variety of meetings and opportunities for parents to participate in their child’s education such as PAC Meetings, Parent Teacher Conferences, PTA, Family Nights and Parent Connect Training to name a few.  The goal of Burnet’s faculty and staff is to provide parents with information on educational tools, parenting tips, technological training and ESL classes, that will begin in January.  The school also tries to bring in community leaders and organizations that provide various services to the community.

    PAC Meetings

Parent Advisory Council is the group of involved parents in the school.   There are 3 officers for the Parent Advisory Council meetings that are held throughout the school year.  These meetings are held to create the Parent Involvement Policy, School Parent Compact and inform the parents of Title 1 and all the services it provides the students as well as the parents.

    Parent Conferences

This is a meeting with your child’s teacher to share important information about your child.  It is suggested that you identify issues you want to discuss ahead of time.  Review your child’s schoolwork and progress reports.  Look for special talents, as well as areas for improvement.  Ask your child if there is anything he or she would like you to discuss or ask to see during the conference.  Note any changes at home that may be affecting your child’s behavior – such as a change in routine, a divorce or a death in the family.  Make a list of questions and concerns.  Contact the school to confirm your conference time.

    PTA

As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) reminds our country of its obligations to children and provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students.

PTA does not act alone. Working in cooperation with many national education, health, safety, and child advocacy groups and federal agencies, the national PTA organization collaborates on projects that benefit children and that bring valuable resources to its members.

    Family Nights

Events where students and family members have the opportunity to participate in reading, science or math activities.  The activities are based on the objectives students are studying in class.  Family Nights provide the student and family members a place to learn together in a fun and safe environment.  Faculty and staff are on hand to help anyone with questions about the activities or the objectives and how they correlate to the activities.

     Parent Connect

“Parent Connection” - A program curriculum designed for parents.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could eliminate all the negative influences, environments, situation, conditions and events our children will ever face?  This is a common wish among parents.

Unfortunately, we cannot always be there, and even if we could, life is never that predictable.   Most of our children will experience disappointments, grief, and stressful situations in their lives.  Even if they are fulfilled, and their lives are full of joy, our children are going to face challenges we cannot even imagine.  Certainly our parents and grandparents could not have imagined the world in which we live today, nor can we imagine the world our children will inherit in the future.  That means it is essential that we empower, prepare and equip our children to meet life’s challenges, whatever they may be.
