Nurse’s Corner
Welcome to Thurgood Marshall Elementary!
I am looking forward to a HEALTHY and happy school year for all the students and staff. In order to do this, I am asking for your help in maintaining a healthy environment for your children and the staff in our school.
In an effort to avoid students in the clinic feeling ill first thing in the morning, please use the guidelines below when determining whether to send your child to school.
Children should be kept home from school for the following reasons:
1. Temperature of 100.4 degrees or more in the last 24 hours
2. Any vomiting or diarrhea the night before, or the morning of school
3. Persistent cough
4. Continual runny nose with white, green, or yellow mucus
5. Eyes that are red and weeping
6. Rash of unknown cause anywhere on the body
If you have any questions about whether to send your child to school, please call the clinic.
Let’s make sure your children are healthy and ready to learn when they arrive at school.
HEALTH INFORMATION AND MEDICATIONS
Please make sure that your child’s Emergency Phone numbers and Health Inventory are current. Please notify the school of any changes during the school year in writing or in person in the front office. The Health Inventory enables the school staff to understand and meet the special health needs of your child. Please list all current medications and health conditions.
All medication (prescription or over the counter) must be supplied in their ORIGINAL containers and will be kept in the clinic. ALL medication must have the label from the pharmacy with the child’s name, and will require a HISD Healthcare Provider’s Request for Administration of Medication at School to be completed by the doctor. These forms are available in the clinic as well as below.
**ALL MEDICATIONS AND REQUIRED FORMS MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE CLINIC BY THE PARENT OR AN ADULT**
NO CHILD IS ALLOWED TO BRING MEDICATION TO SCHOOL
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to a great year working with you and caring for your children.
