Senior Army Instructor Lieutenant Colonel King

LTC Louis L. King joined the Army National Guard under the delayed entry program as a high school senior in October 1989.  He served six years in the Mississippi National Guard and joined ROTC while attending Alcorn State University.  A Distinguished Military Graduate, LTC King was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in December 1995. 

 

Upon completion of Engineer Officer Basic Course in June 1996, LTC King was assigned to 44th Engineer Battalion (Camp Howze, Korea) where he served as a Sapper Platoon Leader.  He was assigned to the 10th and 11th Engineer Battalions at Ft. Stewart, GA as Assault and Obstacle Platoon Leader and Executive Officer. 

 

In January 2000, LTC King transferred to the Signal Corps and attended the Signal Officer Branch Qualification Course and Signal Captain’s Career Course, at Ft. Gordon, GA. His first Signal Officer assignment was Battalion S-3 Training Officer in the 54th Signal Battalion and Company Commander for the 550th Signal Company in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and Doha, Qatar.  He supported countless combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.  Shortly after deployment, LTC King was assessed as a Telecommunication Systems Engineer (Functional Area 24), completing the nine-month course at Ft. Gordon in May 2004.

 

LTC King was then nominated and assigned to the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee as the Chief of Telecommunications and Radio Operations for all Inaugural events in support of the second term of President George W. Bush in Washington, D.C.  He served as the Systems Engineering Director for DISA’s Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration program in Arlington, VA until June 2007. LTC King participated in the Training with Industry (TWI) program.  He worked closely with design engineers at BAE Systems in Sealy, TX on numerous projects to include the Mine Resistant Ambushed Protected (MRAP) vehicle, used extensively in Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

 

Upon completion of TWI, LTC King was assessed into the Acquisition Corps, serving as Assistant Product Manager (APM) for three programs simultaneously in the Joint Program Executive Office Joint Tactical Radio Systems (JPEO JTRS) in San Diego, CA until July 2010.  While stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, LTC King served as the APM for Command Center Upgrades - Europe, APM for Secure Infrastructure Communications (SINC), and APM for Power Projection Enablers (P2E) – Europe until June 2014. 

 

LTC King’s awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Joint Service Commendation (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Parachutist Badge. 

 

LTC King earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Alcorn State University in December 1995 and Master of Science in Information Technology Management from Touro International University in 2003.  He is married with four children.
