Due to the current safety restrictions implemented by the City of Houston, the service hours for 8th graders have been reduced to 10 service hours. Many students have already accumulated the adjusted number of hours. 7th graders need to earn 5 service hours.
If you have not earned any hours this year, I encourage you to try and help out in your neighborhood once it is safe to be in larger crowds.
There are many things you can do during this time to earn hours:
1. Write letters and make cards for the senior citizens in nursing homes
2. Go on the HISD website and volunteer to pass out breakfast or lunch to students and their families
The dodgeball tournament will be postposned until further notice. I will assess new information and see when and if we will be able to have the dodgeball tournament.
If you have any questions, feel free to email Ms. Chavez at MCHAVE11@houstonisd.org
NJHS is the nation’s oldest and best-known student recognition program for middle level students and was founded in 1929 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
To be eligible for membership consideration, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2. Additionally, candidates must meet high standards of service, leadership, and character. Students that meet this criteria will receive an application that will need to be returned by the deadline.
Once applications are received, applications are reviewed by the NJHS faculty council made of five faculty members to be selected to be inducted into National Junior Honor Society.
