Project Chrysalis was designed as a small school alternative for the East End's children.  The school has been housed on the Cage Elementary Campus since 1995.  Chrysalis has grown from a team-taught sixth and seventh grade class to an established middle school with around 300 students and 15 faculty members. It provides an extended year program (enrichment summer school required), which emphasizes interdisciplinary learning.

Project Chrysalis Middle School is a Double National Blue Ribbon Award winner. Blue Ribbon Schools are selected based on two primary criteria. They must be among the highest-performing schools in their state and have at least 40 percent of their student body performing at high levels, despite coming from disadvantaged backgrounds. We were recognized in 2012 and in 2019. 

additionally, Project Chrysalis is a Distiguished Title I school that has all TEA distinctions. It has also been included on the Texas Business and Education Coalition’s Honor Roll, and has been recognized by Texas Monthly as one of the Best Public Schools in Texas. It was was ranked among the top schools by Children at Risk in 2018 and 2019.
