Karen Harris is the principal of Cunningham Elementary School. Harris served in various roles over the past 21 years in education. She began her career as a teacher with Beaumont ISD at Regina-Howell Elementary School as a first and third grade teacher for 6 years. She continued her career as a teacher at Bonham Elementary School in HISD as a first, third, and fifth grade ESL teacher for an additional 6 years, before being promoted into leadership roles. At Bell Elementary School, she served as a teacher specialist, where she spearheaded and estalished a K-5 campus-wide system for Guided Reading, prior to the development of Lliteracy by 3. Harris served in additional roles such as Baylor Master Teacher, University of Houston Mentor, HISD Mentor Teacher, and curriculum writer in reading and science for both Houston ISD and Beaumont ISD. At Milne Elementary School, she served as the assistant principal and interim principal, where she spearheaded an academic system that lead Milne out of IR. Harris most recently served as the assistant principal at Cunningham before serving as principal. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and her Master of Education Degree in Administration from Lamar University.
