Family Fun Reading One
Let’s make memories with our MY OWN family by having fun reading one. Blackshear’s educators believe that literacy is an essential element to our scholars’ development and opens the door to a brighter future. Therefore, we are inviting our families to partner with us in building a brighter future for your scholar and join our Lion Cubs’ Book Club featuring our lovely Lion Cubs.
Each month our scholars will have fun reading a thematic book in school and at home donated by our special partners at My Own Library. For the month of November, our PreK and Kinder scholars and their families will read Vote for Our Future by Margaret McNamara. In this powerful picture book about voting and elections, the scholars of Stanton Elementary School learn how young learners can find and use their voices for change. Scholars might be too young to vote themselves, but that doesn't mean they can't encourage their family and friends to vote!
Our first graders, second graders, and their families will read Grace Goes to Washington by Kelly DiPucchio. In this story, Grace and her classmates travel to Washington, DC, for a field trip. Grace feels closer than ever to her dream of becoming president someday. However, she and her classmates have a lot to learn about what it means to serve the needs of the people, especially when the people want such different things! Scholars will learn that kids can make a difference.
Lastly, our third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade scholars, and their families will have fun reading one by exploring The Story of John Lewis by Dr. Tonya Leslie. John Lewis was a civil rights leader and U. S. congressman who never stopped speaking for justice. He went from being a young farm boy to a famous activist, politician, and leader. Scholars will learn how through dedication and determination; John Lewis’ dreams became a reality.
