Literacy By 3
Literacy by 3 is HISD’s approach to literacy is more than just a program or initiative—it’s a movement to turn around and end the literacy crisis in Houston. It starts by building a strong foundation in reading, writing, and speaking during the elementary years—ensuring every child is reading at or above grade level by the end of third grade.

Read Houston Read
As a Read Houston Read volunteer, you can help a 1st grade child develop a love for reading by sharing a book with them. It only takes an hour of your time each week to instill a lifelong love of reading in a student. Connect with your student virtually this year to keep them engaged in reading, even at home.
