    3rd Grade Reading/Language Arts

    Educational Background:
Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania
Master's of Education in Elementary Education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania
This is my tenth year as a teacher and my fourth year teaching at Elrod with HISD.
    Educational Philosophy:
I believe that each child is a unique individual who deserves a rigorous education in a safe, nurturing environment. To meet the diverse needs of all learners, students should receive engaging differentiated instruction that reaches all levels, learning styles, and interests. My goal is to provide the knowledge necessary for every student to become life-long learners and productive members of society.
    Student Expectations:
On the first day of school the students worked together to develop a set of classroom expectations. The classroom agreement is as follows:
    • Be respectful to others-Always treat others the way you would want to be treated!
    • Listen and pay attention to the speaker.
    • Be appropriate and make good choices.
    • Keep belongings neat and organized.
    • Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
    • Always raise your hand and stay in your seat.
    • Only touch what belongs to you.
    • Complete all homework assigned by the due date- Students do receive a homework grade.
    • Always come prepared for class- binder, agenda, and 3 sharpened pencils.

All students participate in the classroom management color code system. When the students are having an excellent day and following all the rules, they remain on the color green. If they need a warning because they are not performing the expectations above, they turn their color to yellow. Orange means they've received a second warning or is a result of a serious offense and a letter will be sent home. Students are responsible for showing their parents the conduct in their agenda each night. I will communicate any issues or concerns in the agenda. The agenda should be signed and returned every day.

Students need to be present and on time to school every day as attendance will have a major impact on academic success. School begins at 7:45 a.m. and dismissal is at 3:12 p.m. Breakfast is served from 7:15-7:40. Students are to come straight to the cafeteria upon arrival. After 7:45, students are required to go to the office for a late slip.
     Conference Period:
Please feel free to contact me during my conference period, Monday-Friday, 1:20-2:10. I am happy to set up parent conferences during this time period as well.
     Student Words of Encouragement:
I believe in each and every one of you and know you have the potential to grow and succeed in life. Believe in yourself. Never doubt what you are capable of and don't be afraid to take risks. Always give 100 percent and put forth your best effort. We will all learn and grow together and I am here to guide, inspire, and motivate you every step of the way. This is the start of your future!
"Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle." Larson
     Mission Statement:
Our mission is to foster socially responsible, compassionate global leaders who are creative problem solvers with high academic performance, while providing opportunities for students to explore health and medical services.
  • Why do we use it?

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
