    • High Frequency Word Evaluation

      The first administration window for the 2018-2019 High Frequency Word Evaluation (HFWE) will open Monday, April 15, 2019, and close Monday, April 22, 2019.  The HFWE serves as a promotion standard for grades 1 and 2. Please note that we have extended the testing window by one day due to the fact that all HISD schools and offices will be closed on Friday, April 19, 2019

      The window for the fourth administration will open during the last week of summer school, July 1-2, 2019.  Students who do not meet the 80 percent passing standard on the previous administration will be assessed at this time. (See Academic Memo)

      Testing Packets

      Please ensure first and second grade teachers print the necessary HFWE testing packet materials prior to the testing window.Testing packets will be made available on Monday, April 8, 2019, through Houston ISD HUB. Instructions on Accessing HFWE Documents on the HUB may be found here.

      Each teacher will need the following resources:

      1. Administration Guidelines which include the Security Oath and Teacher Directions (Found on HUB)
      2. The individual student record sheet (Found on HUB)
      3. The grade level word list (Found on HUB)

       

      Note: The Multilingual Dual Language Handbook specifies that the HFWE will be administered in both languages for both groups of students, and that schools will report both English and Spanish words as a promotion standard in the OnTrack.

      Testing Process

      1. The classroom teacher records responses on the HFWE individual student record. 
      2. The classroom teacher or the designated HFWE campus coordinator then enters student data into http://www.houstonisd.org/OnTrack (See Task Card)
      3. Entry must be done no later than end of day, April 22, 2019. Please note that once the HFWE window closes, it cannot be re-opened(See Task Card)
      4. Print out report from OnTrack (See Task Card)
      5. The record sheet and a printout of the student report are to be placed in the student’s permanent folder.  HFWE results are used to inform future instruction and support promotion decisions at the end of the school year.

       

       

      ONLINE-ONLY:

      Do not print OnTrack answer sheets, test is intended to be scored by OnTrack online entry. Test does not need to be activated for teachers to score online.
