About the Ashford Leadership Team
Kylene Vasquez, Principal
Kylene Vasquez was appointed as the new principal of Ashford Elementary School in the 2020-2021 school year. Vasquez began her educational career as a Special Education Teacher Assistant and continued in HISD as a teacher, teacher specialist, and most recently served as the assistant principal at Grissom Elementary School. Her experience has afforded her opportunities to serve students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She attended the University of Houston, earning a bachelor’s in Fine and Studio Art, English, and a master’s in Administration and Supervision. Vasquez is currently completing her doctoral studies in Executive Educational Leadership at Houston Baptist University.
Tiffany Napoleon, Assistant Principal
My name is Tiffany J. Napoleon. My background is in elementary education. I started in Pre-K Montessori in Aldine ISD. I taught multi-level grades first to third in a Montessori setting. I graduated from Texas A&M with a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in urban and multi-cultural education. Texas A&M served as the program to obtain my principal certification. I’ve taught third and fifth grade self-contained, as well as 6th grade ELA. I served as a Teacher Specialist for two years and a Center Director for five years. I currently attend St. Thomas University as I am working towards completing my doctoral degree in Leadership and Innovation-Administration. My dissertation topic is Early Childhood Administrators’ Leadership Style and its Influence on the Early Childhood Program. My favorite color is purple, and my favorite flowers are hydrangeas. I love gardening and reading. I am married and have a Rat Terrier named Mia.
Dr. Rasheedah Farooq, Teacher Specialist
I am Dr. Rasheedah Farooq, Teacher Specialist at Ashford Elementary School. This is my 22nd year working in the field of education. As an experienced educator, I've had the opportunity to work with diverse groups of teachers and learners. I’ve taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade. My charge, over the years, has been to engage in and promote effective, culturally responsive ways to address the needs of all learners. With a focused background in literacy, I’ve also been a discipline management consultant, instructional specialist, staff development specialist, and literacy coach. My ultimate goal is to add value to any work environment and sustain an atmosphere conducive to success for all. I am excited and eager to serve as a human resource for the students and teachers of Ashford Elementary School.
LaQuita Small, Counselor
My name is LaQuita Small, and I am excited and honored to be your school counselor. I have been with Houston ISD for 16 years. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood and Family Development from Texas Southern University, and my Master of Art in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. This will be my third year as Ashford’s school counselor. It is my goal to meet and exceed all of your expectations. I am passionate about helping students reach their full academic, social, and emotional potential.
Aledwina Townsend, SPED Chair for Resource and BSC
I am Aledwina Townsend, and I serve as the Special Education Chair for Resource and BSC. I am a graduate from LeTourneau University with a Master in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in Special Education. This will be my thirteenth year in special education. I began my career as a teaching assistant in an SLL class, and have served as a teacher in ECSE, SLL, and Resource classes. My ultimate goal for our students is to know that they can do anything they put their mind to, despite any opposition they may face. My mission for our students and families is to advocate on their behalf in any and every way I can. our Ashford SPED Team Rocks!
Lauren Roberson, SPED Co-Chair for Early Childhood Special Education
Lauren Roberson is currently serving as the Co-Chair of Special Education for Early Childhood Special Education. This is her 6th year teaching and 6th year at Ashford Elementary as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016 with a degree in Special Education. Lauren not only has a passion for teaching students but for advocating for them and pushing them to grow to their full potential. All students can and will learn when provided with the tools and guidance they need to be successful. Go Eagles!
