  • Kylene Vasquez

    Kylene Vasquez, Principal

    Kylene Vasquez has been selected as the new principal of Ashford Elementary School. Vasquez began her educational career as a Special Education Teacher Assistant and continued in HISD as a teacher, teacher specialist, and most recently served as the assistant principal at  Grissom Elementary School. Her experience has afforded her opportunities to serve students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.   She attended the University of Houston, earning a bachelor’s in Fine and Studio Art, English, and a master’s in Administration and Supervision. Vasquez is currently completing her doctoral studies in Executive Educational Leadership at Houston Baptist University.

     

     

     

    hawkins         Tara Hawkins, Assistant Principal

    Tara Segars Hawkins is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and has been an educator for 13 years serving in various roles. She  began her career in education with HISD as a 2006 Teach for America corps member teaching 3rd grade math and science at  Wesley Elementary then Milne Elementary. She transitioned to Neff Elementary where she taught 4th grade math and science and served as science lead teacher supporting 5th grade science. Starting in 2013, Hawkins served as the leader of Neff's math and science departments in the positions of Teacher Specialist then Dean of Instruction. She then desired to support a larger scale of teachers and students, therefore, Hawkins began math and science consulting with Vontoure Learning, LLC. She is most recently back to HISD serving as the Assistant Principal at Ashford Elementary. Hawkins earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Louisiana State University, Masters of Arts degree in Teaching from University of Houston-Downtown, and her Texas Principal Certification from Region 4.

     

     

     

    Farooq         Dr. Rasheedah Farooq, Teacher Specialist

    I am Dr. Rasheedah Farooq, Teacher Specialist at Ashford Elementary School. This is my 22nd year working in the field of education. As an experienced educator, I've had the opportunity to work with diverse groups of teachers and learners. I’ve taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade. My charge, over the years, has been to engage in and promote effective, culturally responsive ways to address the needs of all learners. With a focused background in literacy, I’ve also been a discipline management consultant, instructional specialist, staff development specialist, and literacy coach. My ultimate goal is to add value to any work environment and sustain an atmosphere conducive to success for all. I am excited and eager to serve as a human resource for the students and teachers of Ashford Elementary School.
