DeShaun D. Harris, Principal
DeShaun Harris was appointed as the new principal of Ashford Elementary School in the 2023-2024 school year. Harris began his educational career as a Teacher and continued as an Instructional Specialist, Assistant Principal, and Middle School Dean of Instruction. His experience has afforded him opportunities to serve students at the elementary and middle school levels. He attended Prairie View A&M University, earning a bachelor's in Math Education, Secondary Education, and Teaching, and a Master's in Education from Sam Houston State University. Mr. Harris is currently completing his Doctorate in Education Leadership at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Dr. Tiffany Napoleon, Assistant Principal
My name is Tiffany J. Napoleon. My background is in elementary education. I started in Pre-K Montessori in Aldine ISD. I taught multi-level grades first to third in a Montessori setting. I graduated from Texas A&M with a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on urban and multi-cultural education. I also completed my doctorate degree in Leadership and Innovative-Administration from St. Thomas University in Miami. My dissertation research was on Early Childhood Administrators' Leadership Style and Its Influence on the Early Childhood Program. Texas A&M served as the program where I obtained my principal certificate. I’ve taught third and fifth-grade self-contained, as well as 6th grade ELA. I served as a Teacher Specialist for two years and a Center Director for five years. My favorite color is purple, and my favorite flowers are hydrangeas. I love gardening and reading. I am married and have a Rat Terrier named Mia.
Dr. Rasheedah Farooq, Teacher Specialist
I am Dr. Rasheedah Farooq, Teacher Specialist at Ashford Elementary School. This is my 23rd year working in the field of education. As an experienced educator, I've had the opportunity to work with diverse groups of teachers and learners. I’ve taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade. My charge, over the years, has been to engage in and promote effective, culturally responsive ways to address the needs of all learners. With a focused background in literacy, I’ve also been a discipline management consultant, instructional specialist, staff development specialist, and literacy coach. My ultimate goal is to add value to any work environment and sustain an atmosphere conducive to success for all. I am excited and eager to serve as a human resource for the students and teachers of Ashford Elementary School.
Dr. Jose López, Teacher Specialist
Dr. López has over 15 years of experience in the field of education. He has taught various grade levels from Pre- K to fourth grade bilingual. He began his career at HISD as a teaching assistant and has served as Bilingual Teacher, Special Education Department Chair, Formative Assessment Coordinator (FAC), and Teacher Specialist. His passion for teaching and his ability to utilize data have enabled him to improve student achievement. Dr. López holds a Doctor of Education in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, an Education Specialist Degree, a Master of Science in ESL, a Master of Education in Education Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Brenda Booth, Counselor
I am Brenda Booth, and I am so excited to serve as your School Counselor at Ashford Elementary for 2022-23. My background is teaching Special Education (Resource, Co-Teach, Inclusion). My academic experience over the past 22 years includes teaching and counseling elementary and middle school students. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a History major and a Business minor. My Master’s Degree in Counseling was from the same college, Sam Houston State University.
Previously, I was the School Counselor at Sutton Elementary and later at Sugar Grove Academy in HISD. My focus this year at Ashford is to provide Guidance Lessons in the classrooms as well as small group counseling to support various groups during non-instructional time. I have a passion for Ashford students to achieve balance in their lives through social and emotional learning, by engaging in helpful strategies and coping skills. Parents, students, teachers, and staff are all welcome in my counseling office.
Horace Price, SPED Chairperson
My name is Horace Price, and I am a proud Special Education Teacher and Educator at Ashford Elementary. I am from Missouri City, Texas, and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Paul Quinn College. I earned my Master’s in Education from Grand Canyon University. I am certified to teach Special Education and Physical Education, and I also have my Principal Certification. I have been teaching for twenty years and this will be my first year at Ashford Elementary, where I specialize in helping students bridge the gap of learning as a Resource Teacher, as well as serve as the Team Lead for the Special Education Department. In addition to teaching at Ashford, I have taught at Ponderosa, Yates, as well as Sterling High School, and I have coached basketball, football, baseball, and softball at these prestigious high schools. I have a true passion for working with our young learners!! Helping each child progress in all areas of their development—academic, social, language, and motor—is a challenge that I have been honored to accept daily. I strive to create a community of learners that nurtures this growth in a positive, fun environment.
