Dear ROE Community,
It is my distinct privilege to serve ROE for the 2021-2022 school year. Throughout my career, I have served as a secondary English and IB Diploma TOK teacher, IB Coordinator and IB District Director, school administrator, A180 IB Lead Principal and the proud principal of River Oaks Elementary. Over the past decade, we have systemically and transformationally shifted the thinking from homongenous (Vanguard vs. neighborhood) to heterogeneous classrooms which embrace ALL learners. My experience and training with the IB Continuum equip me with the leadership and expertise needed to support our teachers and families as we continue to preserve the values of the IB and the strong academic foundation even in the midst of a global pandemic.
ROE boasts a proud legacy of excellence and consistently rates as a top elementary school in Houston and surrounding areas year after year! Additionally, ROE was reauthorized as an IB World School in 2018, and we earn many accolades annually. While we are honored with this recognition, we know test scores are one small component of a school's story. Even though the numbers do give a glimpse inside the building, there is so much more that makes ROE successful such as inquiry, agency and project based learning which focus on student interests and creativity.
Most importantly, our teachers care deeply for every student in their classroom, and they work hard to meet each child right where they are and move them forward from that place. Whether exceptionally gifted or twice exceptional, our teachers grow kids everyday.
Again, I am honored to share in this exciting endeavor where everyone has the learning of the child front and center. We exemplify what public education should be everywhere - families, schools and communities working together to nurture our students and families and support our teachers.
Thank you in advance for another great year!
