    Souper Pantry

Through the generous support of our community in the Souper Bowl of Caring Telethon, 30 HISD schools received funds to establish emergency food pantries. Ashford Elementary applied and was approved for the HISD Souper Bowl of Caring Food Pantry Grant. The pantry is located inside the Wraparound Resource Room and is available to the community on Monday from 11 am to 2 pm or by appointment to ensure the Wraparound Specialist is available.
For assistance, please reach out to the Wraparound Resource Specialist by submitting a Student Assistance Form or email.

  • Strengthening FamiliesSanta Maria Logo

Strengthening Families is developed around a curriculum that supports parents and children exploring resiliency and strong family bonding. The classes consist of parenting skills, children’s life skills and family skills taught through video and engaging conversation. Classes are delivered with flexibility and an adaptive curriculum, based on meeting the family where they are, while keeping them engaged. The team of Tiffany Canales, Luz Mosquera and Mayda Diaz from Santa Maria Hostel represent youth and parent prevention services experts. They are all bi-lingual and are expanding our service area and broadening our reach.

  • Backpack Buddy

    Backpack Buddy

One in five southeast Texas children is considered food insecure, which means they don’t have consistent access to enough nutritious food. Many of these children rely on school meals to provide breakfast and lunch during the school year. During breaks, such as weekends and holidays, many of these children go home to little or no meals. The Houston Food Bank’s Backpack Buddy program works to fill that gap by providing nutritious, child-friendly food for school children to take home over the weekend.

Through the Backpack Buddy program, the Houston Food Bank works in partnership with participating schools, school district delivery sites, and other community partners, to ensure that the food sacks are distributed to children every Friday during the school year.
