    HISD Reopening Plan for the 2020-2021 Academic Year

    October 19, 2020: Face-to-face instruction begins*

    September 8, 2020 - January 29, 2021: First semester of virtual learning for students/parents who choose online instruction.

     *Parents will have the option to choose online instruction for the fall semester (through January 29) or entire school year (through June 11). *

    All kindergarten and 5th grade students not previously identified as G/T will be tested during HISD’s Universal Testing Window, November 9 - November 2O,2O2O. There is no application for this testing window. Testing will take place on campus, during the school day. If you have further questions about the G/T Identification process or testing schedule, please contact our GT Coordinator, Mr. Jordan Curtin. Click the links below for more information.

    The transition to virtual learning can present various challenges for families. To ensure parents & guardians are better informed, this course is designed to provide an introduction to virtual learning & guidance to support your student's virtual learning experience.

    If you have received a Notice to Vacate or a Citation to be removed from your home or evicted, you may be able to get legal assistance through the resources on this page. It is important to act as quickly as possible if you already received a notice.

  • Curbside Student Meals

    Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8 — the first day of the 2020-2021 school year — HISD Nutrition Services will offer daily curbside pickup, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Benavidez. Each day, families can go to any location to pick up one pre-packed breakfast and lunch meal per student. The meals are served at no cost to families. Parents must show proof of enrollment in an HISD school — such as a student ID or report card — to pick up the meals.

  • Enrollment Information

    If you are a parent with a child new to HISD or need to enroll in a different campus, please visit this website after August 10 for additional information and instructions. No action is needed if you were enrolled in HISD on June 1, 2020 and (1) are attending the same school in the fall, or (2) are transitioning to a middle or high school that you are zoned to or, (3) are enrolling a magnet or school choice program you were offered a seat for. Students new to the district may still qualify for spots available at magnet and choice programs, including Prekindergarten; please contact your school of interest, visit www.chooseHISD.com or call 713-556-6734 for more information and assistance.

    Students and parents can call the HISD @ H.O.M.E. Hotline at 713-556-INFO (4636) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Operators will be on hand to answer questions in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Arabic. The hotline will remain in place for as long as it is needed to support the transition to at-home learning.
