    School ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

J.P. Cornelius Elementary opened in 1960. The school was named after John Paul Cornelius, a principal of Hartman Middle School who died in 1957.

Cornelius Elementary is an exemplary magnet school for young talent in the areas of science, math, and technology. We are located in southeast Houston. Our rigorous and relevant instruction is tailored to meet the unique needs of our diverse learning population. We also offer an array of other stimulating learning avenues such as fine arts, UIL, student interest-based clubs, sports, dance, robotics, STEAM, and Student Council. We are the perfect fit for your scholar!

At Cornelius Elementary, we are committed to the relentless pursuit of delivering on the promise to every child, every day. We provide an innovative, positive, nurturing environment where scholars can grow into principled and productive citizens who will one day be able to compete in a globally changing society.

We promote lifelong learning, healthy friendships, and outstanding character. Our school-wide restorative justice framework creates "safe spaces" where students can share out with peers weekly, bond with teachers, and grow through character development.

At Cornelius Elementary, we cultivate the constant thirst for more knowledge as we strive to produce HISD global graduates. Our school motto is "Making Tracks for the Future."

Come make tracks with us. Welcome to the BEST!
