Houston, Texas 77018
Mylie E. Durham Elementary School was dedicated on May 5, 1968. The school is named for a highly respected physician in the Houston Heights area who lived from 1893 to 1962. During his lifetime, he founded the Durham Clinic and served as president of the Harris County Medical Society.
Durham is located at 4803 Brinkman which crosses Candlelight Drive and Dunsmere. The school is located near thriving Houston neighborhoods such as Shepherd Park Plaza, Candlelight Plaza, Garden Oaks and Oak Forest. The bordering landscape includes a wooded park filled with beautiful tall pine trees, a jogging track and an action-packed play facility that is frequented by neighborhood families.
Over the years, Durham Elementary has boasted an amazing HISD Leadership Magnet program. Currently, Durham Elementary School is an IB World School for the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The school received its authorization from the International Baccalaureate Organization in April of 2014. This year we have added a 50/50 Dual Language program with Spanish as the target language in PK, Kindergarten and 1st grade.
Over 600 students attend Durham. We offer prekindergarten classes starting at age 4, as well as, kindergarten through 5th grade. In addition to classrooms full of rigorous academic lessons, students may also participate in programs such as Music, Physical Education and Art.
