• WELCOME!

    Dear Prospective Berry Families,

We are honored that you are considering Berry Elementary School Environmental Science Magnet for your student.  For the past fifty years, Berry students have been exposed to outdoor education and embraced a love for the Environment.  Berry students enjoy the best of core educational opportunities in the general education classroom with our exceptional teaching staff and work with Magnet teachers daily to develop strong ethics which build students to be excellent communicators, advocates for environmental conservation and ecology, and strategic problem solvers.  Fostering student growth in these areas, empowers the student to let his/her inner leader shine!

The Magnet program at Berry is truly a school-wide initiative.  Every educator and faculty member on the campus plays an essential role in the development of your child.  We teach students the power of positive, expressive communication.  We enable students by encouraging them to question the world around them.  We nurture students by facilitating their interpersonal skills.  We motivate students by making school an engaging and uplifting environment to learn in.  We challenge students as we provide rigorous learning opportunities and guide students to achieve more than they thought possible.

Berry is a GREAT place to be!

Our magnet program includes an environmental science lab class, as well as an environmental art class that our students attend during their ancillary rotation schedule.  Students also get to experience the outdoors by having class in our courtyard and doing nature walks on our nature trail.

Each month, our students have a grade level science project that is done in their classroom.  Students’ projects are displayed, on our main hallway, on a monthly basis.  Each grade level is assigned a specific month to showcase the student’s work.

Our students look forward to the spring semester so they can begin planting seeds and watching our flower beds and garden grow.  Our garden is sectioned off by grade level to help our students distinguish and advocate for not only their garden section but our school and our planet.

Each grade level is also assigned a theme that they focus on during their environmental science class.  The themes are as follows:

Kindergarten – Garden Plants and Animals

1st Grade – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

    2nd Grade – Recipe for Success (nutrition/garden)

3rd Grade – Our planet Earth

4th Grade – Water, water everywhere

    5th Grade – Energy
