Mr. Chavis Mitchell has been selected as the new principal of Parker Elementary School. Mitchell has served as a teacher, teacher development specialists and assistant principal at Anderson Elementary School. As a highly effective teacher, he was selected to serve on HISD’s Teacher Advisory Council for Career Pathways and Compensation and under HISD’s Transformational School Initiative, he provided coaching, mentoring, and teacher development support for more than 40 campuses. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Southern University A&M, and a master’s in public administration from Texas Southern University.

Title I Parent Engagement Survey
Dear Parent or Guardian:
Thank you for taking the time to complete the HISD Title I, Part A, 2020–2021 Program Parent and Family Engagement Survey. The purpose of this annual survey is to find out how effectively the school works with you and motivates your family to be involved in your child's education. The survey will take about 10 minutes, and your input is anonymous. To make your voice count, submit your school survey no later than May 7, 2021. If you have more than one child, please complete one survey for each school they attend. In the event you have more than one child attend the same school, you will only need to fill out one survey for that school. HISD re-opening plan for the 2020 - 2021 school year. See highlights from our Superintendent’s communication:
• All students will start the school year VIRTUALLY on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
• Virtual instruction for all students will continue for six weeks through Friday, October 16.
• On Monday, October 19, 2020, face-to-face instruction for students will begin. This date is subject to change based on COVID-19 conditions across the city of Houston and recommendations from local, state, and federal health officials.
• There will also be an option for parents to opt-out of face-to-face instruction for a portion of the year – or for the entire school year.
What are next steps for Parker Elementary administration, faculty and staff?
Updates will be shared periodically to ensure our community is well informed on all programs and plans for the new school year. We also encourage families to visit www.houstonisd.org/reopening for more information on the 2020-21 school year and protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of students, families and staff.
