STAAR — the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness — is the state-mandated testing program for students in grades 3 through 12. In elementary and middle school, assessments are designed to evaluate progress and ensure youngsters meet grade-level expectations.
In high school, STAAR End of Course (EOC) tests measure whether students are on track for graduation and ready to pursue college, workforce training, and careers successfully. Five high school EOCS—in Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History—must be passed before the student can graduate.
