    Student creating art

This course is for serious artists who want to explore new types of art, improve their drawing skills, and be challenged to be more creative and develop as a young artist. We will study famous artists and their techniques, art movements, and art vocabulary while creating our own complex and unique projects.

It is encouraged that students maintain an art journal throughout the year as well as develop a portfolio of original artwork (15-20 images of your best and most recent work. No cartoons. No anime). The instructor and guest artists will give hands-on demonstrations in drawing, painting, printmaking, clay ceramics, photography, mixed media collage. Students create their own challenging projects utilizing techniques they have learned.

Only 3rd-5th grade students who pass the interview/audition process are specially selected for this class. Students' behavior/conduct and grades must meet standards. Our exhibition schedules will include students' solo shows and collaborative shows bi-monthly. Along with creating art for traditional on-campus shows, such as the Black History Program, Cinco de Mayo, Winter Program and Fine Arts Showcase, we will be aggressively preparing for art exhibitions at exterior venues and galleries.
