Referral Process
-
Any student can request to meet with us, or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent/guardian. Please do not send students directly to our office unless it is an emergency, i.e., the student is in an obvious state of stress, crying, despondent, etc; in which case, please call before you send them to make sure we are available. If you have any concerns about a student in your class, please complete the referral form and we will meet with the student as soon as possible (24-48 hours).
Parents/Staff/Students: Submit a SAF for Counseling
To inform your campus counselors of a need you may have, you will fill out a Student Assistance form, also known as the SAF. This is an online form which can be accessed anywhere you have access to the internet and will automatically be directed to that student’s counselor. Once submitted, the counselor will be notified and will be able to work through the referral. As we work through the referral, you will also receive certain updates, providing you with clarity. These forms are also located outside of our office 104, around the school building, and in classrooms.
Outside of school hours, if you are not in danger, but need someone to talk to, you can contact the HISD Mental Health Hotline at 713-556-1340, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
