Important Athletic and UIL information:
All Middle School Athletics are scheduled to follow our normal Athletics schedule. At this time HISD has NO COVID 19 restrictions for outdoor sports/activities but FBMS will encourage and offer mask to anyone that request it. All indoor Sports will still wear mask except during ACTIVE participation(i.e. during the game). While Athletes are in the locker room, bench or out of drills during practice indoors a mask will be required. Both indoor and outdoor Sports will still maintain 6 feet distancing and will be enforced by all Coaches.
Athletes are required to bring a water source/bottle to hold water as students will not be able to drink directly out of water fountains. Athletes will be able to refill water sources before/during/after practices, games, meets and matches.
Important things to know:
All athletes MUST be insured to participate in any athletic activity! HISD offers Student Accident/Athletic Insurance at a reduced cost of $35.00 per athlete, per school year. You must make one of three choices with regard to student insurance:
- You have insurance and waive HISD insurance; complete your insurance information and check “HISD Waiver” box on the Medial Information Form. You must turn in a copy of your insurance card and fill out a waiver (see attachment) and return it to your coach;
- You have insurance and want HISD insurance to act as secondary coverage; pay $35, complete your insurance information and check the “School Insurance” box; or
- You do not have insurance; pay $35 and check the “School Insurance” box.
If you are purchasing HISD insurance, please include cash or money order (payable to HISD) with your athletic forms. If you have paid in a previous sport make sure to notify your current Coach about your paid policy.
* If you elect to waive HISD insurance, you must complete the Wavier form and upload it to Register my Athlete. This is required by HISD and must be notarized.
FBMS Athletic Program:
Frank Black Middle School has the most comprehensive athletics program of any middle school in HISD.
FBMS offers a twelve (12) sports and have additional sports options under development. With excellent Coaching and a rich tradition of fielding competitive teams. FBMS students have a wide range of sports options that help develop teamwork, discipline, focus, athleticism and good health habits, while experiencing the fun and reward of competition.
The University Scholastic League (UIL) governs public school athletics in Texas and restricts participation to 7th and 8th graders for UIL sports. At FBMS 6th graders are eligible to participate in Lacrosse, Softball or Baseball.
Student Athletes will be completing all paperwork online this year using Register my Athlete. Parents will create a profile, sign UIL paperwork, upload Front and Back Physical page with Student and Parent signature on the bottom of the front page, Insurance and Medical Documents (if applicable). Once cleared the Athlete turns in the original physical and a copy of Insurance card to start practicing.COACHESFootball8th Grade Coach: Coach Obeng8th Grade Assist.
