What are the different types of contracts?
- Probationary:
Probationary contracts are based on years and consecutive length of experience. Contract eligible employees with 0-4 years of experience, as well as anyone with a lapse of service, can be on a probationary contract. The probationary period is 3 or 4 years. After the 3rd probationary contract, you will be eligible for a one-year term educator contract. - Educator:
All contracts issued in Houston ISD are educator contracts, regardless of position.

Who is eligible to receive a contract?
Only full-time, Chapter 21 positions (as defined by the TEA Code) are eligible for contracts. Current contract eligible positions include Assistant Principal, Counselor, Campus Instructional Coach, Campus InstructionalFacilitator, Diagnostician, Media Specialist, Nurse, Principal, Speech Therapist, Teacher, and Test Coordinator.

Is contract’s location specific?
Contracts are not location specific. While the current school’s name may be included on the cover, the school location has no bearing on the terms of the contract. You can accept the contract even if your location for the current school year has changed.

What does district policy state in regard to contracts?
There are only two types of contracts, probationary and educator term. The type of contract has nonentity with the type of certification you hold. Probationary contracts are based on years and consecutive length of experience. Anyone with 0-4 years of experience, as well as anyone with a lapse of service, can be on a probationary contract. The probationary period is 3 or 4 years. After the 3rd probationary contract, you will be eligible for a one-year term educator contract.

What does the start date mean on the contract?
The contract start dates are generic to represent the school year. Each employee’s actual start date is dependent on their position and will be outlined in their report to work form, assignment letter or Contract Start and End Dates calendar. Are employees on leave eligible for a contract?
Employees currently on leave will not receive a contract, as contracts are only extended to active employees. Once an employee returns from leave, they will have access to their contract if they are in a contract-eligible position.

What is the deadline for accepting/declining the contract?
Employees will have two weeks from the date the contract is issued to accept or decline it in ESS.

What will happen if I decline my contract?
If you decline the contract for the next school year, you must complete a Notice of Separation or Resignationshould be completed in OneSource.

I’m unable to sign my contract.
You click on “check” (which produces your name and time stamp on the document), you still have to click“send” to submit the accepted contract.

Why do I still have a probationary contract.
You will be on a Probationary Teacher Contract for 3 full years. If the teacher was hired late in the 1st year ofemployment that year does not count as a full year for contract purposes.

I’m getting the following error.
This is simply letting you know that it will end date your previous contract row from School Year. Click send and you should receive a reference number. That is how you will know that you submitted it correctly.

What is the difference between a probationary and term contract?
The difference is a probationary contract has no appeal rights, but the employee can file grievance underpolicy DGBA. A probationary contract may be non-renewed at the end of its term or any time for good cause. A term contract does have appear rights.

I’m transferring to another position within the district should I still sign my contract?
Yes, you should sign your contract even if you are transferring to another position within the district. Your employment contract ensures your employment with the district for the School Year.

My contract does not reflect my salary.
HISD does not provide salaries on employment contracts.

I am a part-time teacher am I eligible to receive a contract?
Only full‐time, Chapter 21 positions (as defined by the Texas Education Code) are eligible for contracts.
