FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL READINESS

As a core functional area, Human Resources' first duty is to the students of Houston ISD— to ensure that students have access to highly-effective professionals not only during the week of August 28, but also year-round, Human Resources will manage a comprehensive HR Command Center. This one-stop-shop will address challenges, roadblocks, questions, and general supports needed by both school leaders and candidates throughout the week.

Infrastructure & Technology
- (4) Badge Printers: Print badges on-demand and as needed.
- (2) Check-In Stations: Kiosks where walk-in employees can provide their information and details on the specific support needed.
- (10) Customer Support Lines with Computers and Phones[1]: Walk-up desks whereby:
- Employee walk-ins can receive support.
- HR staff can address phone calls and respond to email inquiries[2].

Detailed Roles & Responsibilities
- Badge Printer: Responsible for ensuring that badges are printed for newly-activated employees who have not yet received badges, as well as walk-ins. Badges to be printed on-demand, with pick-up or delivery scheduled shortly after.
- Check-In Station: “First face” when walk-ins enter—responsible for welcoming employees, assisting with checking in at pre-stationed kiosks. Also responsible for managing and monitoring the flow of incoming requests, parsing out to assigned customer support staff.
- Customer Support Staff: Highly-knowledgeable Human Resources staff with access to all systems necessary to assist. Responsible for helping triage issues from walk-ins, as well as responding and/or routing email and phone inquiries.

Support Strategies
- Compensation: Address payroll concerns, salary adjustments.
- HR Information Systems (HRIS): Assist with technical issues, data management.
- IT: Provide guidance on new employee log-in challenges, and laptops to set-up lab.
- Compliance: Provide guidance on policy matters.
- Investigation: Handle investigation needs, continue fingerprinting background checks.
- Employee Services: Assist with call inquiries, badge distribution, pre-hire work.
- Talent Coordinators: Manage hiring inquiries from schools/dept.
- Recruitment: Address staffing needs, applicant inquiries, initial point of contact/hallway.
- Evaluation: Support performance reviews, feedback processes.
- Associate Teacher Program: Assist with substitute teacher arrangements.
- Teacher Alternate Certification Program: Guide program participants, handle queries.
- Onboarding: Provide information regarding Onboarding (NEO) scheduling, expectations, and general support.
