Advanced Placement Courses and Exams
The College Board’s AP courses are college-level classes in a wide variety of subjects that you can take while still in high school. They offer you challenging course work and a taste of what college classes are like.
When you take an AP course, you have the opportunity to take the AP Exam in that subject. AP Exams are given in May. They’re two- to three-hour tests made up of multiple-choice and free-response questions. The exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5.

CollegeBound Center Note: The school district pays for the AP test for students enrolled in that AP course. If you would like to take an AP test for a course which you are not in, you will have to pay for it out of pocket and arrange the matter with Ms. Bovell.
CLEP Alternative to AP Exams
Information from the CollegeBoard website.
You may be able to reduce your college costs and graduate faster by taking CLEP exams. That's because taking these exams can earn you college credit for things you already know.
The College Board’s College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) has been the most widely used credit-by-examination program for more than 40 years. It is accepted by 2,900 colleges and universities and is given in more than 1,700 test centers and on military bases.
CLEP allows students of varying ages and backgrounds to demonstrate their mastery of college-level material and earn college credit. It offers 33 exams in five subject areas, covering material taught in courses that students generally take in their first two years of college.

CollegeBound Center Note: CLEP tests are an alternative to students who are very knowledgeable about a subject, but do not wish to enroll or do not have the space in their schedule to enroll in the course. They are also a good alternative for students who took the AP test but did not pass and want to try a different test because they think they can pass. The advantage of CLEP is also that they are cheaper and can be scheduled any time throughout the year at various localities.
