Alfred Guillory: August 2012 Employee of the Month

Alfred "A. J." Guillory

Alfred “A. J.” Guillory, Employee of the Month for August, is a campus police officer at Stevenson Middle School. A member of Team HISD for 25 years, he also served in that same capacity at Henry Middle School when he first came to the district in 1986. Over the years, Officer Guillory has been active on the gang, field training officer, special response team, and bike patrol units.

As a campus police officer, Officer Guillory patrols the school grounds and monitors the area around Stevenson Middle School to keep all students, faculty and staff members, and visitors safe. He also gives regular presentations to students on subjects such as safety, bullying, and gang awareness, and he coordinates monthly meetings for parents on various topics. Officer Guillory is a member of the Texas Gang Investigation Association, and he serves as chair of the campus safety committee.

Officer Guillory is a proud member of Sam Houston High School’s Class of 1978, and a product of HISD’s Easter Elementary School (now closed) and Burbank Middle School. He holds a certificate in criminal justice law enforcement from the University of Houston.

Originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, Officer Guillory now lives in Katy with his wife of 13 years and his three children. When not working, he enjoys fishing, cooking, working out, and playing with his pugs, Puggles and Ty.

"Officer Guillory is an integral part of this campus," said Stevenson MS Principal Alisa Zapata. "He treats this community like it’s his family and goes beyond 110 percent. He is so proactive that when he apprehended a suspect fleeing from the police back in April, he made sure to do it before school dismissed for the day so that the students would still be safe inside their classrooms. I’ve been in the district for 16 years and I have never worked with a better officer."

"It can be a tough job to get students to attend Saturday tutorials,” explained Title I Coordinator Kristin Martin, "but Officer Guillory came up with an idea that brought in many students: he held an open gym beforehand where students could come and play sports. They even had dance competitions. Watch Officer Guillory walk through the halls and you can instantly see the strong relationships he has made with our staff and students. We count on him to protect our community and he takes notice of every detail. Last spring, he even apprehended a felon after he noticed a suspicious person trying to come on campus and discovered he was wanted for burglary."

"I’ve known A. J. since he came to HISD and I have never had a single complaint about him,” added HISD Police Sergeant Adolf Saenz. “He is a consummate professional, and very soft-spoken. This is a guy you would want to bring home to supper."
