Meeting Minutes:
Our SDMC meeting began at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
Campus Safety – Locked doors to classrooms and exterior doors of the building are expected and checked daily. Teachers and Staff demonstrate teamwork while working together to keep students and staff safe with the Locked Doors Policy. Monthly Fire Drills, Intruder and Shelter-in-Place Drills are up to date. We will continue each month in accordance with state and district guidelines. Teachers and staff are vigilant as they supervise students during morning arrivals, afternoon dismissals, and transitions in the hallways.
Budget – We have projected student enrollment of 1080 Students for the 2023-2024 school year. Our elementary classes will have a 22:1 ratio for Grades K-4. Grade 5 will reflect a 25:1 ratio. Middle School Grades 6-8 will reflect a 26:1 ratio. This projected enrollment directly impacts our annual budget.
School Improvement Plan (SIP) – In June, we will conduct our Final Summative Review of the SIP. We have held Quarterly Reviews of the SIP in November, January, and March. These formative reviews are in place to ensure that our SIP goals are being met. We provide evidence and rate measurable objectives for Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Curriculum – We continue with House Bill 4545 accelerated instruction for Grades 4-8. Most students have completed their 30 hours for reading and 30 hours for math. These sessions with teachers and students have been coordinated by our administrators, Ms. Callegari and Ms. Gilbert. They conference with parents and document each student who qualifies and attends these sessions for HB4545. Tutorials have been held before school, afterschool, and on Saturdays.
SDMC Elections – There will be two positions open for the next school year. The SDMC Elections will be held by secret ballot.
Last Day of School for Students – Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Teachers will close out paperwork and clean classrooms on their last day Thursday.
Other business – Summer School begins Tuesday, June 6, 2023, and will be completed July 3, 2023, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. Our Kindergarten Bilingual students will begin Friday, June 2, 2023.
This was the last SDMC meeting for the 2022-2023 school year.

Meeting Minutes:
Our SDMC meeting began at 2:30 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2023.
Campus Safety – Locked Doors both exterior and classroom are continuously monitored by Campus Officer and Administrative Staff. Texas Education Agency officers are monitoring schools throughout the Houston ISD. Monthly Fire Drills, Intruder and Shelter-in-Place Drills are current. We will continue each month in accordance with HISD guidelines. Morning and Afternoon supervision by teachers and staff demonstrate great teamwork to keep students safe.
Budget – Projections for student enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year have been calculated for 1080. Our elementary classes will have a 22:1 ratio for Grades K-4. Our Grade 5 will reflect a 25:1 ratio. For the Middle School Grades 6-8, we will reflect a 26:1 ratio. Meeting our projected enrollment and daily attendance will directly impact our budget.
School Improvement Plan (SIP) – Quarterly Reviews have been held in November and January. The next review will be in March. These formative reviews are to determine that our SIP goals are being met. We provide evidence and rate measurable objectives for Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Curriculum – The TEA Interim assessments provide us with data to determine which students are on target for passing grade level standards. House Bill 4545 tutorials are ongoing for Grades 4-8. Some students need 30 hours for reading and 30 hours for math. Ms. Callegari and Ms. Gilbert have coordinated these sessions with teachers, students, and parents. Parent conferences are being held and documented for each student who qualifies for HB4545. Tutorials are held before school and afterschool. A powerful resource, IXL, has been purchased for all students in Grades 3-8. It supports students in every content area and can be used in the classroom and at home. Teachers are implementing it to enhance learning with reading, writing, math, science, and social
studies. This online tool will help prepare our students taking the STAAR this year as it will be an online platform.
Eureka Math K-5 and Carnegie Math 6-8 – Our Teachers are registering and attending this two-day training to prepare for implementation in 2023-2024.
National Magnet Certification – Project Based Learning is an area of focus for this certification. Our teachers have submitted artifacts to Dr. Matson as projects have been captured in pictures and video. We are one of 11 Magnet Schools working toward our National Certification.
Spring Break – March 13-17, 2023
Other business – (1.) Reading Across the Rice School will be held March 2, 2023. This event is sponsored by Ms. Owens and team. Each grade level K-8 will be asked to participate. (2.) There are old books and materials in the Fourth Grade Workroom which may be given away.

Meeting Minutes:
Our SDMC meeting began at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.
Campus Safety – We discussed the procedures in place for all classrooms to be locked and all exterior doors. If teachers see a door propped open, they must close it immediately and report it to the front office. Officer Michael Felecia monitors doors daily and completes an audit every Friday. Fire Drills, Intruder, and Shelter-in-place drills are ongoing throughout the school year.
Budget - Principal Hobbs informed the SDMC that the school has a healthy budget. We had 1083 students enrolled and noted on our October snapshot date. We projected 1080 students. We need to encourage student attendance as it is a major factor in the calculation of funding for our school.
School Improvement Plan Review – Quarterly reviews are held (November, January, March, June) to determine if SIP goals are being met. The SDMC reviewed and was in agreement to continue to modify strategies as needed for Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science for STAAR testing grades.
Curriculum – HB4545 impacts Grades 4-8 on our campus. Some students need 30 hours of accelerated instruction. We are on target with providing students with the necessary hours. Tutorials were held before the Thanksgiving Break for students who need additional support as we close the gaps on learning. Our teachers are targeting students in need of assistance in reading, math, writing, and science. We are purchasing materials and software to support this targeted instruction.
National Magnet Certification – Project Based Learning is happening across our campus. We want artifacts and materials from all classrooms participating in Project Based Learning to be submitted to Dr. Matson. This information will support our goal as we pursue the National Magnet Certification.
Rice School Luncheon – Our teachers and staff were provided a holiday luncheon on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. HISD backpacks were purchased as gifts for our Rice School Teachers and Staff.
Other Business – (1.) Winter Break begins January 22, 2022. (2.) Teacher Prep Day is January 5, 2023. (3.) SDMC meetings are scheduled quarterly according to Board Policy, and they are as follows: September 9, 2022 (Q1); December 20, 2022 (Q2); February 15, 2023 (Q3); and May 17, 2023 (Q4).
