P.R.A. (Patterson Robotics Academy) 3rd and 4th graders participate in the EARLY (Engineering and Robotics Learned Young) robotics contests throughout the year. P.R.A. 5th graders participate in All-Earth ECO BOT Challenge (Harris County Department of Education) robotics contests. Girls Who Code Club follow a curriculum prescribed by the international organization as well as Scratch coding software. 4th and 5th graders meet on Wednesdays to prepare for Junior BotBall Challenges.
P.R.A. meets on most Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (3:15pm - 4:45 pm) to learn about the fundamentals of simple machines, build motorized mechanisms, and designing apps. While the 3rd and 4th grade teams’ practice for EARLY tournaments using wired controlled robots, the 5th grade team uses basic computer coding to program autonomous robots to perform ECO BOT Challenges at the tournaments. Robotics Academy members are invited to tryout at the beginning of the year based on merit, motivation and interest. This school year P.R.A. has expanded to include 5th grade Girls Who Code.
