Esmeralda.Barnett@houstonisd.org
Hello everyone, my name is Esmeralda Barnett and I’m the 11th grade counselor at James Madison High School. This year I will also be assisting 9th grade students. I am originally from Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico but I’m Houstonian at heart. I have been in education for over 10 years and my area of expertise is adolescents. I received a Bachelor's degree in Modern Languages from Universidad Intercontinental and a Master's of Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. I worked at Sam Houston Math Science and Technology Center for 7 years as a teacher of AP Spanish and Literature and I was LOTE Department Chair. I also worked as an ESL, Bilingual, Special Education, Home bound teacher for Community Services and as a counselor at Margaret Long Wisdom High School. My counseling philosophy is student-centered and solution focused and I believe holding space for someone is the best gift you can get. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate and reach out to me. I'm here to help you.
