     Gifted and Talented

The School at St. George Place's Vanguard (Gifted and Talented) Neighborhood program is designed to meet the needs of the Gifted and Talented students. Vanguard Neighborhood K-12 programs provide a learning continuum that is differentiated in depth, complexity, and pacing. The Vanguard Neighborhood program is designed for G/T students who excel in general intellectual ability in combination with creative/productive thinking and/or leadership ability. All of our teachers at the School at St. G-eorge have received 30 hours of training in meeting the needs of G/T students and receive a yearly 6 hour update in the delivery of instruction for gifted students. TEA requires that all kindergarten students have the opportunity to apply for Vanguard Neighborhood during the fall semester. All of our kindergarten students have the opportunity to apply for the Vanguard Neighborhood program. Students who do not qualify during their kindergarten year may re-apply once a calendar year.

Recently, changes were made to HISD’s gifted-and-talented program. Under HISD’s new board policy, once your child qualifies to receive gifted-and-talented services, they will continue to receive those services unless you request otherwise.

The district has created a Frequently Asked Questions page to explain the changes to the GT program and how it could potentially affect your child.

If your child is already enrolled in the Vanguard Program and you are interested in attending the School at St. George on a transfer, please contact our principal, Huy Bui to receive transfer information.
