    Prerequisite: Language 7Y
    To enroll in 8th grade, students must have successfully completed the 7th-grade language course. If they have, they will automatically be enrolled in the course of the same language. The course will focus on further developing students' language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Additionally, cultural elements related to the language studied will be explored.

     

    Spanish Native Speakers 1A/1B

    Grade: 6-8
    Prerequisite: Placement Exam

    The purpose of the beginning levels of modern languages is to develop communicative competence. This course introduces students to the language and builds proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. At the end of the course, students should be able to engage in simple conversations within the limits of practiced vocabulary and structures. Students will also gain insight into the cultures of the countries where the language is spoken. Classes are conducted in the target language as much as possible.

     

    Spanish Native Speakers 2A/2B

    Grade: 7-8 Only
    Prerequisite: Spanish Native Speakers 1A/1B

    This course is a continuation of Spanish Native Speakers 1A/1B. It focuses on the development of advanced communicative competence in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing, as well as on understanding Hispanic cultures and issues of identity for heritage speakers of Spanish in the United States. Students will also continue to deepen their awareness and understanding of Hispanic cultures, including language variation, customs, geography, history, and current events.
