  • The Worthing High School Chapter of the National Honor Society is a group whose purpose is to recognize outstanding academic achievement, leadership, character, and service. Sophomores, juniors and seniors with a G.P.A. of 3.2 or better will be invited to apply in the spring.

    How are members selected?

In the spring semester, students who are academically eligible are invited to apply and will be given an application. Applications must show evidence of leadership and an ongoing commitment to community service. The resume and essay are reviewed by a faculty committee. Potential candidates will also be asked to attend a short ten minute interview with the faculty committee. The purpose of the interview is to allow the sponsors time to clarify any questions they have on the applications and to allow each candidate to ask questions they have about the organization. Members are selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

What does the N.H.S. chapter do during the school year?

The Worthing High School Chapter of N.H.S. does many activities during the year. Serving Sunnyside: Celebrating the Spirit of Thanksgiving is a service project in which the citizens are feed a hearty Thanksgiving meal prepared by students. N.H.S. invites other clubs and organizations to collaborative in this school-wide service project. This year the chapter will recognize student leaders during Leadership Week.  Any sophomore,  junior or senior  who thinks they may be academically eligible and are desiring service opportunities, should contact Ms. Cain (dcain@houstonisd.org), the National Honor Society adviser.
