    Applying to the Magnet Program

We are unable to accept more magnet applicants for the 2024-2025 school year.

All interested students should complete the online application at HISD School Choice. The application is available now through December 8th.  Students who have been in HISD for the past two years will not need to submit supplementary documents.

     Qualifying for the Magnet Program

All HISD Magnet Schools use a district-created rubric to determine an applicant’s score. Ninth-grade students are evaluated based on 7th-grade Reading and Math STAAR or Standford scores (whichever is higher), 7th-grade final report card grades in math, science, English, and social studies as well as the grades earned during the first grading cycle of 8th-grade in math, science, English and social studies.  Students receive a score for each component which is then totaled for a composite score.  Tenth-grade students are evaluated based on eighth-grade final report card, eighth-grade STAAR scores or Stanford Scores, and the report card from the first six weeks of ninth grade.  If the student has a composite score of 80 or above he or she qualifies for the program and will be placed in the lottery.  If the student has a score below 80, he or she does not qualify, but we would be happy to assist in finding other Magnet programs that might be a better fit for the student.
