Yes. Club Zenith provides an after-school program. Visit www.zenithlearning.org to register or call 713-988-9600. Email inquiries may be sent to info@zenithlearning.org
    8. Will the instruction provided this school year be online or in-person?
We will be adhering to the Houston ISD Back to School plan. During the past 18 months, students have lost a great amount of learning during virtual instruction. Unfortunately, the student academic achievement gap has expanded because of this. For our school to strategically provide students with high-quality instruction and intervention, we will be providing in-person instruction. 13. What do I do if I want my child tested for GT?
Testing dates will be released at the end of September 2021.
    14. When school starts, can I walk my child into class?
The first day of school is an exciting moment for both our parents and students! And, we want to provide both our parents and students with emotional support to capture this big day. Thanks to our wonderful PTO, we will have a ‘first day of school’ photo backdrop for parents to take pictures of their child’s big day. To help our younger students transition to the normal school setting and expectations, we ask parents to please give their child a big hug and say goodbye no later than 7:40 am. For safety reasons, we will not allow parents to stay around past 7:40 am. Effective on August 24, 2021 (the second day of school), parents are no longer allowed to walk their child into the building.
    15. Where do I drop off and pick up my child once school starts?
Morning: 7:15 am–7:40 am (after 7:30 am, your child is marked tardy)
The front drop-off circle is for buses and special education students only.
The back of the building drop-off is for all other students.
      Afternoon: 3:00pm – 3:10pm
The front pick-up circle is for buses and special education students only.
The back of the building pick-up is for all other students.
All car riders will receive a “Car Rider Tag” on the first day of school. All car drivers are expected to have their car rider tag displayed on the dashboard during afternoon pick-up.
    16. My child is riding the HISD school bus, how will I know which bus and what time they will pick up/ drop off my child?
You can find information regarding HISD transportation at https://www.houstonisd.org/transportation
If you have questions specific to transportation at Carrillo Vanguard Elementary School, please email Mrs. Santiago, our Magnet Coordinator at esantiag@houstonisd.org
    17. Will my child be issued a laptop for the 21-22 school year?
Because we are limited in technology equipment and virtual learning will not be enforced this school year, we will not issue laptops unless the district enforces and provides them.
    18. What is the school doing to keep my child safe during the current pandemic?
At Carrillo Vanguard Elementary School, we will be adhering to the Houston ISD Back to School plan. Although masks are no longer required, at Carrillo, we highly recommend them to be worn by both students and adults while inside the building. You can read about our new safety guidelines in the HISD Back to School plan by CLICKING HERE.
    19. Will the classroom instruction be in small groups or large whole group?
Carrillo Vanguard Elementary School teachers will use collective individual student data from the past 2-3 school years (when applicable) to group students in small or whole group to provide the best instruction possible. Classroom sizes will be normal before the pandemic, but instruction will be provided according to student academic needs.
    20. Will I be able to visit and eat with my child during his/her lunch?
At this time, for safety reasons, we will not allow parents (or adult relatives) to join their child for lunch. As the school year progresses, we will revisit this and update you.
    21. Since I cannot have lunch with my child, can I drop her lunch instead?
You can drop off lunch for your child. We ask that you please label it with your child’s name, grade, and teacher name. We will not interrupt instruction and drop food off to the classroom. The food will be placed in the “lunch pick up table” located next to the receptionist area, and it will be the child’s responsibility to pick it up once they pass the area to line up for lunch. We are not responsible for warming up food.
