    Chinese Program Overview

At Kolter, students learn about the Chinese culture and practice using the Chinese language to communicate.  We utilize oral instruction and focus upon building a strong foundation in vocabulary.  Pinyin, a Romanized alphabet system, and some simplified Chinese characters are introduced to students.

Children learn Chinese in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere through games, songs, movies, and role-playing in the classroom.  They also gain cultural experience by participating in after-school programs and field trips.

Mandarin Chinese is spoken by 1.3 billion people in China.  Mandarin is also spoken in Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe where large Chinese communities congregate.  China is one the most rapidly growing countries in the world and is regarded as potentially the largest global economic market of the 21st century.  China plays an increasingly important role in the world’s political and economic stage.  The United States government has designated America's relations with China to be the most important foreign policy issue now and in the foreseeable future.

Our Chinese program prepares children to become global citizens and expands their experiences to enjoy the richness of China's past and current society and culture.

Students can participate in after school Chinese club with Ms. Yu or Ms. Chen. Kolter also has a Dragon Dance Club that meets once a week to practice traditional Chinese dragon and lion dances.
